What needs temporary air?
For planned maintenance, describe which part of the existing system will be unavailable and what must remain in use. Is this a complete shutdown, or will one production line continue? Include the maintenance window and when the normal supply is expected to return. For a planned changeover, include the time allowed for site preparation and who can confirm the connection arrangements.
For extra production demand, explain what is changing: another shift, additional machinery or a short project alongside normal operations. List the equipment that will run together. A replacement for an existing compressor and an extra supply for a new process need different assessments.
If equipment has stopped unexpectedly, explain the current situation and the work affected. Include your preferred dates and any urgency so these can be discussed alongside the technical requirement.
Build a useful site brief
- Existing system and demand
- Have the compressor nameplate details and relevant machinery specifications ready. Note the airflow needed at the working pressure and which machines run together. Explain whether the hire would serve the whole site or only selected equipment.
- Power and air quality
- What electrical supply is available at the proposed location? Pass on any process requirements for oil, moisture, filtration or drying, including an existing air-quality specification if there is one. Do not assume the current compressor alone describes the whole system.
- Timing and operating pattern
- Give the preferred start date, expected duration and working hours. Highlight continuous operation, shift changes or an uncertain repair date. Include any period when the site cannot accept a delivery.
- Access and delivery questions
- Provide the postcode, access restrictions, unloading arrangements and proposed equipment position. Include the hose route, approximate length and connection sizes, plus who can agree the setup. Ask what delivery, collection and any additional work would involve before agreeing the hire.
If flow or pressure is unclear, the air compressor sizing guide explains which figures to look for.
Working near other people or noise-sensitive activities? Use the silent compressor hire questions to explain the surroundings and compare noise declarations.
Before you make an enquiry
Can I enquire before the maintenance dates are fixed?
Give the likely window and explain which dates remain provisional. Include the expected length of the interruption and who is coordinating the work, so the timing can be discussed alongside the technical requirement.
What if the nameplate is all I have?
Start with that information and describe what the system supplies. Have a photo ready for the conversation; the enquiry form does not accept attachments. Mention any dryers, filters or receivers in the existing setup and flag anything you cannot identify.
What should I check when comparing quotes?
Check the proposed duty, hire dates, delivery and collection arrangements, air treatment and responsibilities for site work. Use the compressor hire cost guide to clarify inclusions and charges. A suitable arrangement needs to be agreed for your particular site.
